november writing challenge: day 2
Tue, Nov. 3rd, 2020 12:53 amThink of three people in your life. Give your character the hair and laugh of person 1, the face and bedroom of person 2, and the wardrobe and mannerisms of person 3. This is your new protagonist. Feel free to give him or her any other characteristics you'd like. Give us an idea of who your character is by describing only the first 60 seconds of the character's day.
I don't want to get up.
I slowly crack open a crusty eye. Sunlight pours into the room, and the smoke-stained wallpaper looks even more sickly in the morning light than it did in my drunken 3am stupor. I pull a dirty plaid shirt off the floor. It smells like bongwater and stale popcorn - a grim reminder that work at the cinema starts in less than an hour - and lazily carry it to the bathroom with me. I have to manuever a bunch of the clothes and garbage on the ground into a straight path to get out, but it's worth it when I find a day-old bag of Cheetos. Breakfast is the most important meal, after all.
My hair is knotted and wild, but there really isn't a whole lot I can do about that. I've been meaning to shave it off, anyway. My shower takes less than 20 seconds. There's no hot water again.
I pack myself a quick bowl and nearly choke as heat sears my throat and lungs. I feel the familiar, tingling sensation, and the day feels much more bearable.
Shit. The bus. I check the time. I've already missed it.
Oh, well. Sparking up a joint, I grab my longboard and hit the sidewalk with an easy laugh. I don't get paid enough to give a shit.
A/N: Again, I submit this the night after but this archaeology assignment will be the death of me. This is probably a bit more than 60 seconds, but I'm glad it was a quick one!
